Canada Bee Population In Rapid Decline
One of every three bites of food eaten worldwide depends on pollinators, especially bees, for a successful harvest. For much of the past 10 years, beekeepers have been reporting annual hive losses of 30 percent or higher, substantially more than is considered normal or sustainable.
Starting this month TCC is launching its urban beekeeping initiative in an effort to help mitigate impact of the declining bee population. By installing beehives at our property, we are actively taking part in sustainable development.
TCCs urban beekeeping environment will be home to approximately 100,000 bees. Bees must visit 5 million flowers and travel the equivalent of 4 times around the earth to produce once single kilogram of honey.
